PIECE 3

Piece 1, was a film I made a long time ago. This film was for a school project and I had to study the work of Alfred Hitchcock and remake a scene from the film “Psycho”. I enjoyed making this piece because I got to study the auteur’s stylistic features and re-create them. I picked one of the most iconic scenes in the film which was after he murders Marion Crane.

Piece 2, is a film that I directed which was influenced by the film “Don’t say a word” directed by Gary Fleder. It follows a patient who has schizophrenia and her doctor comes into the room to play a game of chess whilst he asks her questions about her past. The board acts as a symbol of the film as it represents a friendly game that can bring two people together but it also represents the superiority the patient feels throughout the game before she makes her final move. The ending pencil scene was influenced by the film “Nikita”, it was very hard to shoot because we wanted it to be as realistic as possible, therefore, we had to do a lot of test shots prior.

Piece 3, is one of the most recent films I’ve made, it was influenced by the cinematic movement of the French New Wave. As the cinematographer, I had to be creative with my shot types to entertain the audience. I was influenced by “Bonnie and Clyde”, our film is based on the idea of a “metaphorical chase” and the main character is running away. In addition, I was inspired by the editing style used in Masculin Feminin because it was a compilation of short clips but together it made a story which is something I wanted to replicate.
